Finland-100 Project: “Finland and Finnish nature from the outsider’s viewpoint”
Wildlife Vaasa festival and its supporting association go out on a movie tour this year to celebrate Finland’s 100 years of independence.The tour is arranged as a part of the official program of thousands of events that will take place around the country during the centinary year.

The theme of the tour is: “Finland and Finnish nature from the outsider’s viewpoint” and it will be presented in different parts of Finland during the year displaying Finland and its clean and versatile nature from the foreign filmmaker's eye. Part of the film series will be shown separately for school children in Vaasa region, groups of immigrants and other interested groups. All events have free entrance. The aim is to show Finns and the world how outsiders see Finland’s natural wealth.
The start-up event of the tour kicks-off in Vaasa on Fri-Sat 27-28 January at the Culture House Fanny. Here's the program of the first event In English , In Finnish and in Swedish
and in the summer...to Shanghai!
Finland-100 film series (or part of it), will be presented also abroad at various film festivals. For example, in July this year, the film series will be shown in Shanghai, China in cooperation with the 8th China’s International Animal and Nature Film Festival !

Here come our selection results, after our deadline for submissions expired on June 1st. This year, Vaasa Wildlife Festival welcomes in its competition 218 films from 54 countries, submitted by 150 production organizations. These films were pre-selected to participate in our festival this year, after we received a total of 922 submissions from 83 countries, a new record for our festival and far beyond our expectations.

During the last 14 years, Wildlife Vaasa festival was organized by the Ostrobothnian museum’s Terranova Nature Centre. From January 1st 2016 the festival’s organizing responsibility was transferred to the Culture Center of Vaasa.
